Dear CO Family,

Last year was a good year for CO - in lots of ways. But one thing really stands out. As I noted in the December letter, we started 96 new Bible studies in 2021.  That puts us at almost 700 studies and a little closer toward our goal of 1000. God’s Word is central to our mission and we are encouraged that more and more coaches are longing for God’s truth.  Every year our staff picks a scripture verse that functions as an overarching theme.  This year was easy.  We chose Psalm 119:105: “Your word is a lamp unto my feet and a light to my path.”

Psalm 119 is the longest chapter in the Bible.  It contains 176 verses dedicated to extoling the wonders of God’s Word and its value for all of life.  One scholar calls it, “The giant among the Psalms.”  It is a literary masterpiece that employs an alphabetic acrostic containing 22 paragraphs - one for every letter of the Hebrew alphabet. It’s a writer’s way of saying revelation from God is essential for everything…“from A to Z.”  But it also suggests “order.”, the Psalmist is very aware of the threats that exist in a world that is disordered, hostile and menacing.”

It is easy to see why verse 105 is the most familiar verse in the chapter.  The metaphors are simple and practical.  We are all walking personal pathways.  No one wants to get lost or lose their way; and no one wants to stumble or fall on their journey.  Either can be fatal.  To make it through our lives safely, natural light will not suffice.  It’s no light at all, really. Supernatural light is required.  God alone can provide the guidance and direction for, literally, every step we take.

At CO, we take this message very seriously.  The world is a dark place and there are many pitfalls. Coaches and their spouses are blazing trails for the next generation.  As God Word shines on them, strengthening, protecting, and guiding them, they become “lamps” themselves showing the way for others.  We are grateful to every coach who prioritizes Scripture and who are committed to living it and sharing it.

We are also grateful to you! For your generous and prayerful support of this ministry and our mission.  Please continue to lift up in prayer these men and women who serve their communities, schools and students with such dedication to God and His Word.

To seeing clearly,

Pete
